Jack Bauer: Hero or Terrorist

Okay, I’m sure I’m not speaking for myself here when I say I am a huge 24 fan. The show proves to be intense on so many levels. One of which is morality and how it is incorporated into the daily role of a spy. When one thinks about it, is an action for the greater good better than the action taken for one? No, but an action taken for the greater good is more easily justified.

Here’s the dilemma, we have a spy, Jack Bauer, who each week does what he has to do to get the job done and the whole time, sacrificing his personal beliefs or time in order to succeed for the benefit of the population and the country. Why then did the senator, who got killed last night, wish to nail Jack to the cross for crimes against humanity?

That’s the rub; many times there are jobs that must be undertaken, even though we know it might not be right to some. If this were real life, would the discussion be taking place?

Well believe it or not, this is real. The characters may be a bit overdeveloped and too good looking to be spies, but the premise is quite real. In order to live the lives we have there must be people behind the scenes doing things that we would feel inappropriate. However, that is necessary, in order for us to have these types of lives.

So, I want all of you to think about this today, is the person that may kill others or torture others a hero or a terrorist? If his or her actions better my life, does it make him a hero or if it happens to hurt my life, does it make him or her a terrorist? You decide, your answers today may even surprise you.
