Batman the Animated Series Episode 63 Fire from Olympus
Maxie Zeus is quiet the intriguing villain. He is not the most well-known Batman villain. Perhaps not the most dangerous villains or perhaps the one that expresses one of the most urgent threat. But in the end, he is just one of the more intriguing foes that Batman has fought. Mostly because he reminds me of one of the most popular original villains from the Adam West Batman Series, King Tut, as played by the ultra talented and entertaining Victor Buono. Tut naturally believed himself to be the reincarnation of the boy king, Tutankahamum or of course, commonly referred to as King Tut.
Maxie Zeus is the reincarnation of Zeus. Or at least in his crazed mind he thinks he is. However, that is the not the most amusing part. We’ll get to the most amusing part of this episode in a moment. Maxie Zeus might be a bit touched in the head. He kills his minions with a lighting rod, simulated by electricity.
And in his mind, he sees Batman as his brother, the Lord of the Underworld Hades. You see, this is funny for a number of reasons in hindsight. Least of which is James Woods, who played Hades in the Disney Adaptation of Hercules, played Batman’s evil counterpart Owlman in the Justice League Crisis on Two Earths Direct to DVD movie. A bit of irony and hey, who can ascend Olympus other than Hades.
That would be Batman naturally. Who is just awesome in this episode, as he holds his own against Zeus and manages to beat him. Zeus gets fried, but he is just merely knocked out.
The highlight at the end would be Maxie Zeus seeing the various inmates at Arkham, the various Batman villains as various Greek Gods as villains. The Joker as Hermes was utterly fitting if you know your Greek Mythology.
So yeah, this was a fun episode, with some epic action and just some fun characters. 6.5/10. You can watch Batman the Animated Series Episode 63 Fire from Olympus on Batman the Animated Series Volume 3 and Batman the Animated Series the Complete Collection.
