Another Snow White Tale

Snow White and the darkness.

Image via Wikipedia

An eternity seemed to pass as she stared,

the witch standing above her glared,

she took a bite of the apple,

and the witch doubled and tripled

in her blurred vision,

biting the apple was an odd decision,

the shadows around her would drape,

but she made no attempt to escape,

then she collapsed into one trembling shape,

she heard laughter, then cries,

her hand moved to her mouth,

but she couldn’t move her eyes,

then she rose and her shadow drifted,

not by her own power,

she was being lifted,

the witch made no sound,

staring as she turned round and round,

little men would call,

she opened her fingers

and she let the apple fall,

it was a late night,

but it was the moon that gave a fragile light,

it came in through the windows on the door,

when she was carried away,

only the apple was left,

spinning on the wooden floor.

Snow White is a tale that can be interpreted in many different levels. Snow White’s evil and wicked stepmother is a projection of male jealousy and even though this is only a fairy tale, she may seem more true to life. In this poem, Snow White’s stepmother hands the princess the poison apple which destroyed all her chances for a relationship with her prince.
