Who would have thought a mere duck could be of any help to a Prince?
Princess Tutu: A mysterious anime about ballet and love
Ballet is an interesting dance form but not all of us can be able to do it. Sure some people may see it as a beautiful and graceful type of dancing but others see it as too classy and not the type of dance for the common people. It is indeed a highly technical form of dance which requires a lot of patience, self-discipline and also the right body type to be able to dance ballet. But who would have thought an anime fairy tale would make ballet look oh so easy, mysterious and fun to do?
Even if it is an anime that involves ballet dancing, it isn’t all about ballet. The story focuses on love lost and found along the way. It is also a story of courage, of facing your inner demons and how one overcomes selfish feelings because of caring for someone, be it a friend or classmate or something else.
Although this anime may seem for young female audiences, I believe it is best for people in their teens or even adults as it will not bore them like most shows meant for young ones do. The anime also has a number of male characters guys can surely relate to. The Prince and his knight protector Fakir (Fakia) both have stories similar to what guys usually experience. The Prince is in search of someone he truly loves while Fakir is torn between loving someone and his duty as protector to the Prince. There are love triangles involved and it isn’t really boring because of the beautiful artwork, music, magic, action and the mystery involved in each episode.
Princess Tutu is a Japanese cartoon about a duck who became a young girl called Ahiru. It involves an old man, Drosselmeyer, who lurks mystically in time and in shadows using his magical abilities to turn the duck into a human being. As a duck, Ahiru wished she could make the sad but dancing Prince Mytho (Myuto) happy. Once the duck became a girl, because of a magical pendant, she became a student in a ballet school where the prince also studied. With the said pendant, she transforms into Princess Tutu who is tasked to search for missing pieces of the Prince’s heart, while Fakir protects Mytho from almost everything, even from Rue (Ryu), the Prince’s fiancee. In Ahiru’s search for the pieces of Mytho’s heart, she encounters a lot of people and learns much about love, life and ballet.
What sets this anime apart from crappy ones is the unique and mysterious storyline accompanied by beautiful music and the simple but amazing artwork. A lot of lessons can also be learned from this Japanese cartoon so even if it only has lesser episodes compared to more popular ones it still is worth watching.
