Homer Simpson Character Sketch

Homer Simpson is one of the most lovable characters on “The Simpsons.” He is devoted to his wife and family, though he sometimes makes terrible mistakes, but still loves his family. Some of these mistakes include, but are not limited to, nuclear meltdowns and dancing with a belly-dancer. Even though he makes mistakes of all kinds, he is loved by his family.

Homer is fat, stupid and has a quick-fix mentality. His quick-fix mentality leads him to buy a pony for Lisa after she began to hate him after he got to her concert late. She was doing a sax solo, needed a new reed because hers broke, and sounded very bad. Another thing Homer has done as a quick-fix with Lisa is agree to take care of the kids while Marge is away with Patti and Selma. He says “What is the quickest, easiest way to take care of you?” (Episode 9). She wants him to take her to the video store. There, he sees a movie he wants to get, decides to leave, and takes Lisa even though she hasn’t picked a video out. This shows how selfish he can be.

Another example of his selfishness is Marge’s birthday. He gets a bowling ball for her, has it engraved with his name and fitted to his fingers, never intending her to use it. He says “You’re not going bowling are you?” (Episode 9). This is what happened to her for most of her birthdays. Homer always got things for himself that he never intended Marge to use. Another example, in one of the Christmas specials, Homer sees an expensive machine that says various things, and spends the Christmas money on it. He labeled it “From: Santa To: Me,” indicating also how stupid he can be.

Homer Simpson is one of the most important characters in “The Simpsons.” He is one of the lead roles, and cannot be killed like Maude Flanders after her voice actor wanted more money. Homer Simpson will always be here, along with the rest of “real” popular culture.
