Top 10 Anime on Cartoon Network

A quick list showing the best anime ever shown on cartoon network.

Okay, so let’s take a look at those animes that are so close to our hearts. Just to let you know, the shows that almost made the list were: Lupin III, .Hack//Sign, Bleach, Cyborg 009, Paranoia Agent, Blue Gender, Tenchi Muyo and Zoids. I appologize also for not including Sailor Moon, but I do not know very much about it. If I knew more it would be ranked around number seven or six. Without further delay, let’s take a look at the top 10 animes shown on Cartoon Network!

Honorable Mention:  Kikaider

One of the more retro styled anime shows aired on cartoon network, the story line of Kikaider is what made it so great. Probably the saddest and most depressing series ever aired on cartoon network, this anime dealt with issues of humanity and finding your purpse in life. I won’t ruin the ending, but it would make the Grinch cry. The ending theme song is sad as well. This show’s plot and the issues it covered are what made it so great. A lot of people may have missed this one or wrote it off as “some old anime”, but this is a great show! Definetly one you should check out!

#10 Naruto

Although, not my favorite, Naruto comes in tenth place on this list. It is a show that has grown very popular with younger kids, as well of teenagers. A lot has been cut out from the japanese version (blood, language, etc.) so that this show could be run in a more prime slot. Another problem with this show is that there are too many filler episodes (episodes that do not advance the main plot and are irrelevant). Also, the Naruto’s English voice did disappoint a lot of people. Besides that though, this show has a lot of action, some good laughs here and there, and an interesting story.

#9 Inuyasha

Inuyasha is the anime show in America that seems to draw the most female viewers. This show follows a high school girl and her adventures with the demon Inuyasha in feudal Japan. This show, since it is aired around 12 A.M. or 2 A.M., has a good deal of blood and sexual themes. One problem with this show is that there are just as many, if not more, filler episodes as Naruto. The characters seem to wander forever in this story and not accomplish anything of significance. However, the action scenes are cool and the voice acting is pretty good. This is a good anime for guys or girls, as long as you aren’t looking for a fast paced story.

#8 Big O

A mysterious and dark anime, Big O followed a futuristic city where no one could remember their past. Giant robots were plentiful and murders too! This show was a little too bizzarre and melancholy for some, but it had a wonderful story. Also, with great voice acting and intrigue, this show comes in at number eight.

#7 Trigun

Filled with messages about peace and human nature, this show was an action packed philosophical journey for sure. This is a show for anyone as it is neither very bloody or very sexual. However, one problem that this show does have is disturbing imagery. There isn’t a lot of blood, but there are a lot of bodies! It may be a little much for the kids is what I’m saying. Anyway, with memorable characters and an futuristic, but still old west somehow, setting Trigun is an anime everyone should check out.

#6 Fullmetal Alchemist

One of the most popular shows on cartoon networks anime line up, Fullmetal Alchemist is full of action, magic, and mystery. The show has it’s funny moments, but it has a fair balance of it. The plot involves two brothers in search of the philosopher’s stone. The older of the two brothers wants to use the stone to restore the younger brother’s body, which was lost in an accident. This is a fairly long series and is one of the shows that kills off main characters somewhat frequently, which is also good to hear. It makes the story more realistic and not just another happy ending story. If you watched this to the end, then weren’t you surprised? The ending of this one is great. Watch it!

#5 Cowboy Bebop

What’s cooler than cowboys? Space cowboys! Well, not exactly, but Cowboy Bebop follows the lives of four bounty hunters. It starts out with only Jet and Spike (left and second to the left), but later the other characters join up. With great animation and lots of gun fights, Cowboy Bebop is a great watch. Each character has their own individual story that gets worked out over the course of the series. The music is also great! The show has a little bit of that old noir filmd sort of feel to it. The end of the series is given away in the first episode, but that makes it more like a Romeo & Juliet or another such play. This is probably one of the best series ever, not just on cartoon network. It came out several years ago and the network is still running episodes.

#4 Code Geass

One of the newest anime shows on this list, Code Geass has kept me hooked since the first episode. Everyone loves giant robots! However, that isn’t the real allure of the show. What makes this anime so good is the plot. Almost every episode you are presented with an outcome or event that you had never expected. This show becomes a drug! The english voice acting is very well done as well. This show has everything I’ve ever wanted in an anime. I wish I could rank it higher, but it doesn’t have enough of a fan base, nor is it as immortal or important as the other anime I’m about to discuss. Code Geass is the best though!

Forget everything I said about Code Geass— This is my all time favorite anime. Some may wonder what such a short series is doing so high on the list (only six episodes!). Don’t worry, I will explain my seemingly bizzarre pick. This anime, though short in length, has such power and meaning behind each episode. There was no need to make more than six episodes because they didn’t need to make anymore! FLCL is a coming of age story. The music is almost all done by the Japanese band The Pillows, which makes the action sequences all the more cool. The characters are memorable and the dialogue is witty and hilarious. This anime is beyond the scope of normal anime shows. It has everything you could ever want. Literally. Code Geass may keep you on the edge of your seat, but FLCL will satisfy you for life.

#2 Gundam (Any series, though Gundam Wing is especially good)

It’s hard to argue against Gundam. Almost every series associated with Gundam has been a great success. Gundam doesn’t always follow a linear storyline. Each series deals with a different universe, but all share the commonality of Gundams. I don’t really know what to say about this show other than how great the story is and how the actions is great. I also reccommend Gundam 00, though it airs on Sci-Fi channel and not cartoon network. This series is really a classic.

#1 Dragon Ball Z

This anime will most likely always be the best anime on cartoon network. Maybe even one of the best in the world. This show was one of the first, if not the first, anime we saw as kids. Chances are this was your first step on the long road of being an Otaku. Either way, the action and sheer coolness of this anime earns it the number one place. Oh Goku, what ridiculous hair you have.

nice list. Though I thought sailor moon, one of the first anime to show on cartoon network along with dbz, and pokemon(although it only started airing on CN not too long ago and the original season which was broadcasted on UPN was what started its popularity) would be on the list. they both had a large amount of fanbase and also helped get anime started in the west.

The majority of the internet websites that offer assessments are literally affiliates endorsing the software so I doubt that the user reviews are trustworthy. Cheers in advance for any information any individual can provide.
