Negative Or Positive Impact?
Family Guy a highly viewed show on TV is very entertaining. It is a cartoon about an “average” American Family set in a town called Quahog. Peter and Louis are the parents, Meg, Chris, and Stewie are the children, and the talking dog is Bryan. Each episode deals with different problems. In my opinion, the show contains many negative messages about male gender roles, violence, and sexuality.
First, this show has many negative messages about male gender roles. In Family Guy Peter likes to drink a lot. For example, in one episode Peter drank until he passed out. In addition, in Family Guy Peter doesn’t care about the children. In one episode Louis asked Peter to take Chris to his soccer game. But Peter was too lazy to take him. Furthermore, Peter is the only one in the family that has a job. I believe these messages are negative. People will believe that it is okay for a man to be an alcoholic, not care about the children, and that a man is suppose to work and bring in the money for the family.
Furthermore, Family Guy also conveys negative messages about violence. In Family Guy Peter can be violent. For example, in one episode Peter and Bryan started to fight. They both hit each other with objects around them until they both started bleeding. In addition, Louis is also violent in Family Guy. In one episode Louis beat Peter down to the floor. Furthermore, Stewie also shows violence in many ways. In one episode he shoots Louis with a gun. I believe these messages are negative messages because the convey a message saying that violence is alright and that there is no consequences for using violence.
In addiction not only does Family Guy convey negative messages about male gender roles, violence, but it also conveys negative messages abut sexuality. Peter and Louis have sex in some episodes. For example, in one episode Louis forced Peter into having sex with her. In addition, Meg also had sex. In one episode Meg had ear sex. Moreover, Stewie also showed signs of sexuality. For example in one episode Stewie asked Bryan to have sex with him. I believe these messages are negative. They support under aged sex. In addition, they also say that sex is alright without protection.
In conclusion, Family Guy conveys many negative messages about make gender roles, violence, and sexuality. One negative message a vizier can get from the show is that all man are alcoholic. Furthermore, one might think that violence is alright and that there are no consequences. In addition, the show also makes people think that unprotected sex is alright. Thus Family Guy conveys many negative messages.
