Lipgloss: a Review
This is the Filipino version of the popular and fabulous series Gossip Girl. It is aired last August in every Saturday at 5:00 pm at TV 5.
The story started when Jake, the politician successor, falls in love with Meg, the picture perfect socialite. But, Jake is involved with the relationship with Abby, the 2nd generation celebrity brat. Then, there is a character named Edge who came from US to study as a scholar in Manila because their income in US has been decreased. Edge falls in love with Meg and became Jake’s ultimate rival over Meg.
Other characters are Maui, his perception is power came from money; Jiggo, who is blamed by his father for his misfortune; Kyle, the computer and science geek; Ziggy, Edge’s little sister and the love interest of Maui and Kyle; Louise, the simple little rich girl who wants to have a normal life; Jullivee, the girl’s family who came from rags to riches; and, Steph, Kyle’s bad older sister.
The male cast of this fabulous tv series are Rodjun Cruz, Fred Payawan, Mikee Lee, Sam Concepcion, and Kevin Lapena. The female cast includes Charina Suzara, Miki Hahn, Saab Magalona, Maxine Eigenmann, Mary Grace Perido, and Cheska Ortega. The supporting cast includes Lorenzo Mara, Rachel Lobangco, Lloyd Samartino, Ricardo Cepeda. Lipgloss is directed by Cris Pablo and Aleah Eugenio.
The concept of this new tv show is having it as a remake of the popular American tv series Gossip Girl as their lives of these character has been controlled by the unofficial website of Linden High. These elite teenagers are gaining their popular through this website. And some of their lives would be in scandalous situation because of this site. It is not that Filipino has no originality in making tv series as others commented in forums or other websites. I think that they are not plagiarizing the American TV series Gossip Girl because they compose some plots that are original and well adapted for the Filipino teens who can relate in watching this show. As I see it, each season has different and original conflicts, plots, and theme.

I had seen the Gossip Girl in Youtube, and I can’t help myself comparing these two different shows.
love the cast! all are good looking especially the tall girl whose a main cast i think… she’s pretty!
but, unluckily, filipino might not patronize the show
in the sense that it focuses much on explixit matters
which is not appropriate to our youth..

I think the character of Maxine Eigenmann as Abby has been matured. Since she suffered in economical crisis according to the story, she has no choice but to follow what her mom telling her to do including posing nude in the Men’s Magazine and becoming one of the concubine of an influential politician that is Jake’s father.
im a filipino and a big fan of gossip girl. after watching episodes of lipgloss on youtube, i am so embarrassed. cant filipino shows be more original and creative? i know socialites and they are certainly not that! the show is just.. bakya. god! filipinos arent even supposed to be encouraged to be that vulgar and bakya. just stop airing it. its embarrassing
Hi, Amanda, I agree with you sometimes. I am a super fan of Gossip Girl. Don’t you notice? The theme of the local Blair Waldorf a.k.a. Abby Rickson is a daughter of a former bold actress. Then, this character is force to pursue a career of prostitution. Foreign Blair Waldorf is a daughter of the elite fashion designer. Mas may class ang foreigner kesa sa local and remake Blair Waldorf of the Philippines. Ano ang sasabihin ng ibang bansa? Maraming pok pok sa Pilipinas?

i am a big fan of Gossip Girl…well, i have seen some episodes of Lipgloss and i think the series is okei but the characters are so wrong..i mean, it was said as the local version of Gossip Girl…so it should be as classy as Gossip Girl. sorry, can’t help noticing it..sorry to the fans of Lipgloss..no offense..i’m also just a fan of Gossip Girl..peace…\m/

fanatic ako ng gossip girl and also lipgloss.. mag kaiba naman ang istorya nitong dalawa kaya wala ng dapat na comparison.. dahil sa pinas pinapalabas ang LIPGLOSS at very pinoy ang treatment which is good dahil kahit alam mo ng bakya.. makocornyhan ka man pero kikiligin ka at matatawa naman dahil makakarelate ka at cute ang bawat eksena ( Yan ang PINOY.. hinde komplikado ang buhay).. Sa Gossip Girl naman mganda ang quality nito at maganda din ang storya ngunit subalit datapwat Papa.. Hinde ko naman magagawa at maeexperience ang pinag gagawa nila.. Pero still watch ko parin ang gossip girl dahil crush ko si Nate.. Lakas ang dating kc.. hehehehe..
Napapanood ko pala minsan ang LIPGLOSS as in buong episode sa pinoychannel.tv…. Ang Huli ko lang masasabi wag na tayong magpakasosyal, tangkilikin ang sariling atin.. kung wala ka naman magandang masasabi, itikom mo nlang ang bibig mo wala kanaman mabuting magagawa.. Kung Hei fat choi!! Hahahahahaha
