Game Shows Challenge The Viewer

Game shows are not a common occurrence on television.  Those that have lasted the onslaught of reality shows are popular with television audiences.  They are interesting and are watched daily by dedicated viewers.

One show that is popular throughout the world is Wheel of Fortune.  Who would have thought that guessing a letter and having a woman turn them would be one of the most popular game shows of all times.  The success of this show is hinged on the game that people played as children, called Hangman.  Each letter missed in the puzzle created a part of the hangman character. 

Another show to last is Jeopardy.  It challenges knowledge in various categories, enabling contestants to compete for money.  Audiences at home enjoy the chance to answer tough questions in different categories every day.

The Price is Right is another show to succeed for years.  Audience members guess the price of a shown item.  The person closest to the price, without going over the amount, is the winner.  This win leads to chances to win more things and compete in the final Price is Right jackpot.

There are new comers to the list of game shows.  Are you smarter than a 5th Grader is another mind challenge that puts the contestants up to a group of children.

There are others, that are experiencing a new found beginning.  One such show is the Newlywed Game.  There has been a rendition of this show for many years.  The premise of this show is to pit husband and wife to see what they really know about each other.

Game shows give a respite from reality television. They encourage viewers to think, laugh, and sometimes challenge their economic senses.
