When Games Attack: The Show Needs to be Brought Back

It was great, it was funny and importantly it wasn’t crap or pointless.

Gaming on television, has always been limited when you consider the 90’s stood as the era of great prosperity in the world of gaming, graphic were taking huge leaps and bounds from 2D to 3D within five six years of the decade, consoles were moving away from grey bricks to store games, Nintendo was steadily losing its gaming base to the power of Sony and Sega…..they were dying painfully for everyone to see.

Dominik Diamond has been entwined to this era of gaming and thanks to the known fact that he hosted a programme known simply as Gamesmaster (connected with the magazine of the same name and aired on Channel 4), so it seems perfectly acceptable that he hosted another game based programme on Bravo/Dave. When Games Attack was great, funny and—dare I say—informative about the world of gaming culture. It’s a shame, a shame that it only lasted 1 series composed of 26 episodes, a lot of episodes for a British series indeed, but a greater shame they only made 1 series in the first. Why introduce a fantastic programme if you’re going to leave the fans hanging on whether you’re going to commission a second series? Five years later and still nothing except a void of disappointment, I’m lucky if I can find a few clips online and even luckier if I find an episode or two. A show that may’ve ended to disappoint of its no-return, but I’m glad they made it.

The whole premises worked well, half an hour of a two challenges, a top five whatever and some stuff dealing with gaming culture in Japan and other realms that sprung up each week. But m praise sticks firmly to Dominik Diamond; he was funny, witty and made When Games Attack what it was—a great show in a sea of crap.

It may’ve been on a digital channel, but I knew it still stands part of a select few who get it: Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe, Brass Eye and the show itself When Games Attack.

Go to YouTube, search it and then love it—or hate it if it isn’t your cup of tea.

Thought of the Day: September 14th:

I’m testing people on The World Cloud; I’m screaming out my opinion of religion being horrible and pointless—intentionally and seeing if they fall into the trap. The trap is me predicting their response and it’s quite nice to know I’m right about each one I get.
