A Broadcast Icon Making News.
This just in, Walter Cronkite has passed at 92 years old. What can you say about a man who revolutionized broadcast journalism? Walter Cronkite expanded my mind, and let me see how journalism could develop, and how being a journalist would be put me in the front line of the action. As a kid growing up, I was glued to the tube watching nightly, “Walter Cronkite on CBS Evening News. He was the anchor, but came into your home as a welcomed guest, and not reporting the news, but giving you the accord of what really happened in the news from your own aspect. What comes to mind on that day was when he reported man made a giant step by walking on the moon, and the sadden moment of the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. It was the world watching, and Walter Cronkite talking. You could almost feel his sorrow in telling the American people of this tragic story. You got a personal feeling from Mr. Cronkite as he shared his views, and we his personal friends.
Walter Cronkite inspired me too transpire the Journalism field to which I majored at CUNY Medgar Evers College and Hunter College. My broadcast profile came to life at the Board Of Education Radio Station, WNYE-FM 91.5 of an informative format called “Safe-T” with coloraboration with the 7lst Precinct of the New York City Police Department in Central Brooklyn. Before that, I worked at Medgar Evers College Radio Station, WMEC 1150 AM called “Campus Communicators”, a community calendar segment. I was the Host with a CO-Host. Also appeared on nationwide broadcast on a television project at Hunter College. My writing ability has surfaced from the depth of my mind and onto paper forming a novel highlighting my autobiography, and freelance writing on the Internet. All this was made possible from Walter Cronkite educating me in what can be accomplished and turned into being successful.
I also took a writing test at NBC-TV at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City to become a Junior Journalist, and passed with flying colors, but because it was an entry level position, and I was somewhat advanced, I didn’t get the job. Nevertheless, an effort well spent. I had the honor and pleasure to hear Walter Cronkite’s narration in Florida at Walt Disney World Epcot Center telling about the exploration of the universe. Walter Cronkite’s trademark with all his broadcast with “And that the way it was on this day, good evening”. In my case, thank you for the memories, and bringing broadcasting too my life, and making a everlasting impression on me. Here’s looking at you Walter, and your legacy will be long remembered. You have been heaven sent, but made God your impression of being heaven bound, and that is truly what it is, and what it will always be. News today, your chosen life and tomorrow news reported from heaven. The caption shall read, “Walter Cronkite made it too heaven, not the media way, but God’s way.”
