A man of opinion.

First time I ever saw Bryant Gumbel he was doing the weekend in the NFL, on NBC. And like Bob Costa, he knew his sports. Unlike some who was being feed information. He was a student of it and when he was in line of many for the anchor spot on the Today Show, he was the talk of the candidates. For some reason the news reporters have segregated themselves to thinking he wasn’t qualified because he wasn’t raised in the news division.
But once they settle on him doing the show and with a few minor adjustment Gumbel prove what alot of people already know in the sport division. That he can deliver the news with a serious attitude. And within a few years the Gumbel led show with Jane Pauley was beating Good Morning America with ease. I do think traveling to different sights contributed to this. And respond to a reporter news piece assisted too.
But Bryant proved he wasn’t into listening to bull up stories like others. He was firm with his questions. And opinionated with his thoughts. And he’s still that today. He speaks what he think. This is the Gumbel of old just a little milder.
