American Idol: Season 8

One viewer’s opinion and predictions on the current American Idol season.

Hello American Idol fans! My name is Anders F. I realize that these types of postings are all over the Internet, but I feel the need to subject you to my opinions on Season 8 ( so deal with it! ). I fancy myself to be very much in tune with the American public ( not that I can prove that to you ), and as such, very qualified to share my views on this batch of talent. I am writing this on Wednesday afternoon March 4th, 2009. Thus far, we have seen the entire top 36 perform and are awaiting the results from group 3.

I will start there, last night ( 3/3/09 ) we saw the final group of twelve out of the top 36. At this point, we have half of our top twelve in place : Michael Sarver, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey, and Adam Lambert . Last night’s show seemed a little under par compared to the last two. The question is, who will be the next three into the top 12 ? Based on last night’s performances I can give you one definite, Lil Rounds. Her performance of Mary J. Blige’s ” Be Without You “, was in my opinion stellar. It ends there though . No other performer really blew me away last night, so let the debate begin.

With Rounds being what I consider a lock to get one of the spots, that leaves two more to fill tonight, and three wildcard spots. Lets get to tonight. If getting a spot is based soley on performance ( in a perfect world ), then I think they should probably go to Felicia Barton ( Alicia Keys’ ” No One “) and Jorge Nuñez ( Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” ). I am sure many of you may disagree, and that is your right. Again it is one fans opinion. I find it hard to believe that it will be that easy. First off, when the competition started I felt like Scott MacIntyre was a ( or the ) favorite to be a factor in season 8. He certainly has the talent, and ( I don’t care if it is politically correct or not it’s the truth ) sentimentality vote. Look for MacIntyre to take a spot tonight putting Barton or Nuñez in the wild card round. I also feel like Ju’Not Joyner could easily grab a spot based on performance. That being said, I think tonight we will see Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, and Felecia Barton grab spots in the top 12.

That leaves three more spots in the top 12 to be determined in the wild card round. Now, I am unsure how the wild card round is going to be played. I read somewhere that each judge will pick two contestants of the remaining 27 and  America will vote for the final three spots in a one hour wild card show.  Based on my three picks for tonight, here is who I think the eight wild card contestants will be :  Jorge Nuñez, Ju’Not Joyner , Megan Corkery (she should have beat out Allen last week), Stephen Fowler, Jackie Tohn, Matt Giraud, Ricky Braddy, and ( I know people are going to think I am nuts on this one) Jesse Langseth. Of these eight, I believe Corkery, Giraud, and Braddy make it through.

My top 12 would then look like this :

  1. Danny Gokey
  2. Alexis Grace
  3. Matt Sarver
  4. Adam Lambert
  5. Kris Allen
  6. Allison Iraheta
  7. Lil Rounds
  8. Scott MacIntyre
  9. Felicia Barton
  10. Megan Corkery
  11. Ricky Braddy
  12. Matt Giraud

That’s how I see it people. Of course I am sure of those 12 you want me to pick a winner. That I can’t do, but I will give you my final four which I think will be : Gokey, Iraheta, MacIntyre, and Rounds. You heard it here first people! Let me know what you think.

I think my predictions were pretty good, with the exception of Felecia. I did say Jorge deserved to be there basd on performance..I was dead on with Scott and Lil.. the people that I put in the last 3 spots in the top 12 all made the wild card ound and I believe they will all advance
