This Year’s American Idol
I am not sure if you follow this show or not, but this season does not seem to be its usual self.
For the past three years I have watched American Idol every season faithfully. From the start with the auditions all the way through till the show ends and a new Idol has been crowned.
With this years new season and the new judge Kara DioGuardi it seems to me something has been lost. I liked the show with just the three judges and Paula Abdul being the only woman on the panal. She had her moments but I have liked her since she was a big star herself.
With the addition of Kara the show seems more corny and doesn’t have that burst of energy that it has in years past. I just cant get used to her, her mouth or her ability to seem to take over not only Paula but also Simon. He just isnt his horrible self this year.
The contestants themselves don’t seem to have the same karisma or the talent of years past. The front page of yahoo to the evening news with contestant Joanna Pacitti being thrown off the show, not for her semi professional music but for having inside relationships with entertainment insiders. Now with the new reports of Danny Gokey using the death of his wife to win over America for their votes. I don’t believe this is so because he has a voice. One of the best of them all as I can see.
I guess my overview is this, American Idol I love and will continue to watch, but the media has to find something other than singing to write about and in the process they are running Idols name into the dirt. This season in my eyes seems to be missing a lot. I am not sure if it is just getting old or the excitment is still ahead.

Totally agree with you! So far Kara DioGuardi adds nothing to show. That Irena girl can really sing but it just seems like a bland bunch of contestants so far.

I think the show is finally going downhill.
I found the English version has lost something this year. I shall not be watching it next year. A good write.

Being a huge fan of the show in years past, I do agree that things seem a little off this season. Now I heard rumor that Paula’s contract is due to expire and that Kara was brought in as a possible replacement should Paula choose to leave. I don’t know.
Basically, I think the show may have run it’s course which is sad for all the young aspiring singers out there. Great post.

i loved the American idol 1 & 2, since there’s a Filipino in that show, i don’t think right now, i never had a chance to watch it already!
I agree. The show is not as good this year. I have watched the show from season 1, and loved it every since. However, since Carry U. there hasnt been a WINNING contest that has really broken out in the music industry. That must be why they changed the judges and the format of the show. I do not care for the new format. It seems that a lot of good singers are being turned loose, and some just okay singers are getting through based on looks or “likeability.” We all know that looks alone will not sell albums. Anyway, I will stop my rant now. Great article.
Since I am Canadian, I don’t pay too much attention to American Idol. Truth be told, I barely watch Canada’s version. However, I agree with you: we need more variety. Thanks for sharing.
I keep forgetting to keep up with this series. I did manage to catch a bit this morning but I think we’re a bit behind here in the UK.
Linda, I am a big fan of the show and I have always loved the three with Simon and Paula and their fights and Randy torn between the two. The drama between the three brought so much excitement but now with the new judge it seems the excitement has died down. It’s like Kara makes the show awkward or they seem uncomfortable.
