If the last night AMAs are proof of where the music industry is headed, I’m glad I listen to hard rock, and I’m proud that I hadn’t heard of most of the bands that were interviewed, or booked on the show. I’d be embarrassed if I did.
While watching the American Music Awards on 11/23/2008, one begins to wonder if this is the bleak trend that current music is going to take in 2009?
The host, Jimmy Kimmel was bland, if anything, and not funny. Also, the guests were downplayed. Who cares about what dress a member of the Pussycat Dolls wears? And, who are the Pussycat Dolls in the first place? If you don’t know who they are, do you care?
The Jonas Brothers were lame. Why not place Metalica where they deserve? We had to, instead, endure 3 hours of the equivalent to Mariah Carey, and some unknown girl band with a lead singer who speaks as if she had a wad of gum, in her mouth.
To improve the AMA, I believe they should’ve booked more artists like Scott Wieland. Heck, why not have a show full of bands, the likes of Theory of a Deadman….wait, I think they are from further north than the United States. The AMA’s was missing bands like Drowning Pool, and Rev Theory. Ever heard of Saliva? They were never mentioned, and Shine Down? Nope, but they did make reference to Pink’s sobriety.
I was unimpressed that one of the unknown females had a dress made of fresh flowers. Unimpressed, cause I have no idea, nor do I care, who she is in the first place. The bands displayed in this year’s AMA will not go any further than next year’s AMA’s. That is sad. Why not make a quality program, with lasting bands, and great hosts, with memorable lines? Lasting bands would make the AMA’s not a throw away show. Want to be talking about a program ten years from now? Here’s how:
For instance, I know it’s a common memory of anyone who viewed it, when Bono, in around 1993-1995, smoked something on stage at the Grammies. Where is that scandal? Where is the excitement of Enimen singing onstage, and wondering if he’s going to slip up and say a forbidden word on national television? It is gone, to the censors. Possibly, the AMA’s was ran by Republicans, who are so conservative, that the program was made trite and boring. Sure, Bono was on the Grammies when he smoked something unknown. He’s not American, he’ll never be on the AMA’s.
I was really hoping to sit down for some laughs, some awful outfits, some hard rock (We have hard rock here in America, we really do), and bad country music. but when I turned it off, I realized it was not quality at all.It was close to the Nickelodeon Viewer’s Choice, and even that awards show is layed out better than last night’s AMA’s, and keep in mind that Viewer’s Choice is intended for 6 year olds. The producers of AMA should be humiliated, and an email and written protest should be implemented. The AMA’s are a horrible display of undeveloped talent. Honestly, I’m shocked that they booked David Cook. I am from David Cook’s area, and he sings in the same genre that others on the show did not.
If the last night AMA’s are proof of where the music industry is headed, I’m glad I listen to hard rock, and I’m proud that I hadn’t heard of most of the bands that were interviewed, or booked on the show. I’d be embarrassed if I did.
