The one and only real reality show.
For some reason people are actually offended by the concept of the reality show ‘Big brother’. The way i see it is that big brother is a social study. You put random people in various situations and see how they react. It’s a lesson in life, it’s comparing their reactions to your own and seeing the outcome. It is something to learn from and i find that the people who don’t like it are the people who are so set in their reactions and the validity of these, that they feel they have nothing to learn.
It’s snobbery and laziness and an unwillingness to understand ones fellow human being. Being open and interested in the experience of others is what makes us human. Reaction is everything in life. We get what we get but it’s how we react to it that matters. It’s fairly mentally lazy to sit in your armchair waiting to be entertained by actors following a script with mostly unbelievable story lines that are not believable or pertinent to our own dealings with others in our immediate circle.
Sociology is necessary, understanding of our fellow human being should be of upmost importance to us. I enjoy escapism as much as the next person, we need it to lighten our sometimes dreary reality, but judging my own reactions to situations against others reactions helps me to see who i am and to improve my exceptance of people with their own faults and flaws and agenda’s.
I look forward to big brother every year. When pushed to the limit phisically and mentally, the human is an unpredictable and fascinating animal. The show is a microcosm of the world all rolled in to that small house. The power struggles, deceit and other emotions all intensified. We are all made to abide by the rules some of which are unfair.
It’s about where we draw the line in any given situation. That line runs through all of us.
