Project Runway Season Nine Challenge Two Recap

Challenge two of Project Runway season 9, entitled “My Pet Project,” involved taking materials at a pet store and creating an original fashion garment.  I was, once again, impressed by the amazing talents of some of these designers.  Of course some designs fared better than others.  The challenge, of taking unconventional materials and fashioning them in unconventional ways, proved too much for a few of the designers.  The most popular material was the puppy wee wee pads.  However, some designers got very creative with the use of aquarium rocks, leashes, bird seeds, aquarium florals, twines and ropes.  

Project Runway Season Nine Challenge Two Winner – “My Pet Project”

The winner of this week’s “My Pet Project” challenge was Olivier Green.  He created a dress from Sherpa-like material and hamster cage lining.  The dress was very well made and the judges, Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors loved the outfit, although, Heidi actually favored Anthony Ryan’s dress better.  Anthony Ryan created his dress by gluing bird seeds on muslin.  

Designer with that WOW Factor

For me the designer who had a garment that was a pure eye catcher, was Joshua McKinley.  He fashioned a garment by gluing sparkly aquarium rocks to a well designed mid-drift top.  Then he created a black skirt.  He over did it a bit with his accessorizing and styling of his model’s makeup.  

Second Designer to Go Home

Joshua Christensen was the second Project Runway designer to depart season 9.  Joshua created, what I thought was a cute halter top made from an umbrella and a skirt.  The judges felt that he didn’t go far enough outside of the box and use more challenging materials.  The fact that this was the second time he was in the bottom three, may have influenced their decision.  Heidi Klum said that they weren’t sure if they wanted to see anything else that he had to show, and they didn’t.  Personally, I felt like Bryce Black’s wee wee pad skirt was worse, but, I wasn’t allowed to vote.  

This Week’s “Uh-oh” Moment

Heidi Kilum said of Bryce’s wee wee pad skirt, that she wanted to wee wee all over it.  HEIDI!!!  He simply took about a hundred wee wee pads and created a full skirt that resembled a bunch of huge napkins.  The judges said they had seen that look way too many times and were quite tired of seeing it.
