The racers of one of the most-watched reality series on television are in India this week.
I never used to watch the Amazing Race until I saw last years marathon on some cable show. I have missed it for the last few weeks. That’s mainly because I realized after the first season I watched that I couldn’t really stand to watch the first few episodes. Not because of the clumsiness or the cluelessness of the teams but because of the fighting. People are so frustrated in the beginning of these kinds of series because they are clumsy at directions and are not comfortable in all these new places they are running about in. Makes me nervous.
So I had to stop watching for a while and let them get the hate out of their systems. Nut with 7 teams left, I’m still in it all the way. Now we’re back to the nitty gritty in India! It’s one of the countries I want to visit next myself, after Italy and Spain of course. India has the beautiful dancing, the elephants, the congested streets and its beautiful monuments. Of course this show takes every opportunity to show every and anything about a country when filming in it besides the contestants. The extra footage shot makes up a lot more of the show than even the racers do. It’s one of the main reasons I watch the show.
The task was either to get rupees to go on in a taxi to the final point or to find an elephant. It was halfsies on this one. The first team to make it did their task fairly easily as always. The second team to make it was the father his son who is in his sixities. What a great team. They support each other, love each other and the best thing about them is that the abiliy to make it to the finish line is better than winning the money to them. Or so they say. We’ll see if they make it to the finale.
Meanwhile the two not so nice brothers got held up trying to find the elephants in barrells of hay. The two flight attendants continued to gather rupees so they could catch a cab and make it one their way. They were in last place in the beginning of the show and continued to be throughout.
During all of this three other teams came in with no trouble to the finish line. There were only a few fights and squabbles inbetween but nothing too traumatic. My favorite team to date still is the deaf boy and his mother. Of course they are most sympathetic team. I love them the most because they are just both so determined and the mother is the sweetest of the sweet.
And now all we’re doing is waiting on the two other teams. Usually by this time we pretty much know who’s going to be eliminated. And personally I was hoping for the two brothers. Many people like to see people fight with others on shows like this. Not me so much. The flight attendants had been getting a lot better about it and I started to like them. Unfortunately this was their last leg of the show.
After both teams were in their respective cabs, the girls were just behind the boys. They both got out of their cabs and finally the two brothers come running up the stairs. They were in 6th place. Christie and Jodi are last to arrive but unlike most of the other teams I’ve seen eliminated, they were happy. Crazy right? Not really. It seems as if they became better friends during the race and they both learned that they could do something besides working on an airplane. They got to see the world and show their families that they can be strong and experience things to share with other people. It may sound corny but those are the most important things in life and if you can’t bring that away from a free trip around the world then maybe we have become as cynical as I think we have.
