Viva Hollywood

This show consists of 12 contestants that compete to be the best Latino soap opera actor/actress and win a contract with Telemundo which is the largest production company for Hispanic Soaps Operas.

The host of the show is actress Maria Conchita Alonso. She gives the contestants their challenges and decides who is going home each week. She has two other judges with her that appear mostly during the challenges and then to make their elimination decisions known. Alonso acted in many American movies during the 80’s and is trying to keep her youth as she is obviously getting some work done to her face. This bothers me since she is a pretty woman and doesn’t need to do this to herself. Of course she is getting older but that doesn’t mean she lost her beauty. It is a sad thing that Hollywood has made almost every actress do some sort of plastic surgery to keep her young appearance when in fact many times it only makes it worse. I do have a hard time watching the show when Alonso comes on since her cheeks are so puffed up that it looks as though she was injured in a boxing match and I feel bad for her.

The contestants live together in a house so there is of course plenty of fighting amongst each other. There are many that can hardly speak English. They are required to speak it and speak it well. Some of their challenges may be spoken in Spanish; however they are expected to know English. I find this important especially since they will be working in the United States. To learn English will only be beneficial for them anyway especially if they are serious about acting. Many of the contestants were not comfortable with the English language and have been eliminated since they were not able to perform at their best.

Viva Hollywood has a great concept and again Vh1 has come up with another original idea. This program gives these actors a great opportunity that they probably wouldn’t have outside this competition. If you want to see some crazy stuff happening tune into Viva Hollywood. They have some of the more unusual challenges I have seen on any other reality show. They had just eliminated my favorite, 24 year-old Kalain Santos this past week and I am not happy about it.
