Why I Love The Kids on Jersey Shore

For a new show, Jersey Shore has gotten quite a bit of attention. Even SNL spoofed it in their Weekend Update block. What makes this show so special? A bunch of young people acting outrageously has been done before… a lot!

Just look at what VH1 has put out: Rock of Love, Real Chance at Love, Flavor of Love, I Love New York. I’ve seen enough of these shows to know exactly what Jersey Shore was going to be about.

I was right. But I was also wrong… so very wrong.

This group of Jersey guidos and guidettes are nothing but outstanding. Yes their skin color may be fake (and perhaps other physical features may be unnaturally enhanced), but these people are real. They are real through-and-through.

They are loud. They are flashy. They are emotional.

Real people reacting how they really feel. How many of us can say we live like this? How many of us are instead trying to hide parts of who we are? Rarely do you see true opinions spoken out so openly, or see true emotions (anger, love, defiance, loyalty) displayed with such abandon.

Instead our world is filled with posers. Pageant girls who preach Christian values end up doing pornography. Politicians espousing family values turn out to be cheating on their wives.

Listen, I’m not saying these Jersey Shore inhabitants should be considered as role models. I’m just saying, there’s a reason why this show has become such a quick hit show.  It’s a reality show with an element too many of them miss… reality.
