What is it about great shows getting canceled?
Ponder with me for a moment…The CW aired shows like Charmed, One Tree Hill, Dawson’s Creek, The OC, and a lot of miscellaneous crap throughout the years. Fox puts on reality show after reality show and they go on for ten or more seasons because people watch them. Human beings sit in front of the television and empty their brain cells into the screen, effectively lowering the average American IQ. Well, I guess it’s true that “no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public,” so don’t even get me started on “The Girls next Door.”
But then out of the ashes comes Joss Whedon, the unappreciated genius of our time. The creator of FIREFLY. That is in fact the topic of this article. Firefly IS the most entertaining and thought provoking show that has ever come across basic television. The dialogue gets me and my colleagues talking and reciting and laughing for hours on end, nearly becoming the loveable and complex characters themselves. There is never a time when we say, “Hey, lets watch Firefly!” and nay is the response. Bring it back!
You readers are free to go ahead and accuse me of blasphemy if you so desire, but I don’t see how producers can sit back not see the goldmine that Firefly can give them considering that the fan base is greater than Star Wars. Yeah, I said it. Firefly is cooler than star wars, hands down! But, when I think about it, if the producers are the kind of men and women that watch even the opening five minutes Firefly and are not rolling on the floor laughing or instantly in love with it are not worthy of my spit, so they are a non issue.
In conclusion, Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Ron Glass, Summer Glau, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, Jewel Staite (especially covered in engine grease), Morena Baccarin, Mark Sheppard, Christina Hendricks, Michael Fairman, and all the others I have not mentioned, thank you from the bottom of my being for giving us the greatest DVD collection and movie we could ask for. It is selfish of me to say that every time I see you do another project I get angry because I want you to don your BrownCoats. Stay shiny and maybe one day come back to us aboard the beautiful vessel known as Serenity.
