Role Model: Rick Payne of Ghost Whisperer

Professor Rick Payne who is always answering Melinda’s questions is a role model.

Rick Payne is a role model and the professor that teaches the occult at Rockland University in the television series Ghost Whisperer. Melinda Gordon often goes to him to ask questions concerning signs and other odd happenings that appear when she sees the dead. Payne does not believe in the supernatural, but apparently, he enjoyed the study of it, to be teaching it, and he is up on all of the latest information concerning the occult. He proves he is knowledgeable in his field of study.

Payne shows he is a good person in the fact that is willing to answer the questions for Melinda, and her husband, Jim Clancy. He likes that they are interested and are willing to seek him out to ask the questions. Enough so, that Payne seeks out Melinda at her antique shop to see where she works.

He doesn’t believe in the supernatural, but he accepts it when Melinda lets him know what she can do, especially after her near death experience and when his dead wife, Kate Payne, comes to visit before Melinda helps her cross over.

The more Melinda experiences ghostly visits that are affecting life and the pull of the earth’s gravity, the more interested Payne seems to be in helping, especially as the signs become more and more intriguing. He cannot help but be pulled into Melinda’s world and help as way he can.
