Role Model: Rupert Giles of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer

Rupert Giles, who is Buffy Summers‘ Watcher, of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer is a role model. He often works beside Willow Rosenberg. He met Buffy and her gang, when they were in high school in Sunnydale. He worked as the school librarian. A library is where he belong, considering he is an utter bookworm. Rupert can not stand computers. He hates Principal Snyder. That is what he leaves to Willow. Xander Harris at times also assists him, along with Cordelia Chase, Anya Jenkins, Tara McClay, Oz and Dawn.

Quite the Academic, Giles speaks Latin, German, Sumerian, and ancient Greek. He is also well versed in demonology, and the various histories of Vampires Buffy runs into. He is a graduate of Oxford University in England as a Watcher.

Giles often finds Buffy frustrating at times, but Buffy was never given the Slayers Handbook. He trains Buffy, making sure she is in shape to handle any Vampires, or any other demons. He lets Buffy work in a manner that suits her best so that she is able to excel. He understood her need to go to college and make something of her self, so that she could be more than a slayer.

He worked for the Watcher’s Council for a long time, until they let him ago. He would not do what they asked him to do to Buffy because it would destroy her trust in him. They sent in Wesley Wyndam-Pryce to replace him and he did his best to work with his replacement as Watcher. In search for another career, Giles later opens a Magic store. Anya worked for him and later when into partnership with him.

Giles was not always the doing professor type. When he was younger he got into quite a lot of trouble with men like Ethan Rayne. He had tattooed on him the “Mark of Eyghon”.

He had a romance with Jenny Calendar. She is a techno-Pagen. She was actually a member of a clan of gypsies who invoked the curse upon Angelus. He had a one night stand with Joyce Summers, Buffy’s mother, and a woman named Olivia during his time of unemployment.

Giles watches over Buffy and her friends as if he were their parents. He cares about them deeply, and if they end up in the hospital he is there for them. He trusts them with his life, and they trust him.

Giles is a planner, life Buffy. On top of that he is very professional as well as responsible. His past mistakes at time are a little hard for him to handle when they come to find him. He is not afraid to handle Ethan Rayne, and in many ways likes to take care of him in his own way. He likes magic and can perform spells. He chose career fields that fit his personality.
