Role Model: Tasha Yar of Star Trek, the Next Generation

Tasha Yar is the Security Chief until her life is taken, but she is indeed a role model.

Tasha Yar of Star Trek, The Next Generation is a role model. She is the Chief of Security on Enterprise-D. Born on Turkana IV, a colony that fell into chaos, Tasha and her sister were chased by rape gangs, and Tasha had to learn to defend herself. She left at age 15 to attend Starfleet Academy because she wanted a career at something she does well. She always follows orders and is very responsible. She does what she has to do to get things done. Picard liked her because she was willing to cross a minefield to save some colonists.

She keeps up with her craft constantly in preparation and training. She uses a holodeck training program, which is constantly learning, so she has to learn more all the time just to defeat it.

She met up with Q twice. The first time she was frozen in protection of her captain and on another mission in meeting with Q, she was placed in a penalty box. Both times because Q thought, she was being insubordinate to him. Dealing with Q was in some ways very hard for her because every time she stood up for her people and was doing her duty she was punished. There was no way for her to really defend herself.

Captain Jean Luc Picard knows of her abilities in battle as he chooses her to serve under his command. She often accompanies Commander William T. Riker on his away missions. Commander Data and Tasha have a very close relationship especially after a one night rendezvous while under the influence of an illness something similar to being drunk.

Armus killed Tasha senselessly while on an away mission as a way to show his power. In a freak mishap due to a change in timeline, Tasha was brought back to life and captured by the Romulans. She bore a Romulan General a daughter named Sela. She carried on the likeness of Tasha Yar.
