Have you ever watched TV or a movie and thought to yourself that these things can only happen in movies or TV?  I came up with 11 things that only happen in movies and TV that I wanted to share with you all.  Maybe you noticed these things too.

Shower scenes
People don’t wait for the water to get ready before they take showers.  The water is always instantly ready when they jump in the shower.  I always have to wait a few minutes before the water is ready.

People don’t use sponges or wash clothes when they take showers or baths.  They always use a bar of soap and rub it on their bodies.  I never take a shower like this.  How would you clean certain body parts without a wash cloth?

Phone scenes
Whenever someone calls someone, they always say “it’s me” instead of saying their name.  I know most people have Caller ID, but the person whose name shows up may not be the one calling.  Me could be anyone.  This happens all of the time on my soaps (Days Of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Young And The Restless, and The Bold And The Beautiful).

Watching the news
Whenever something important happens on the news, it’s always the first story.  A lot of times, I have to watch the news for 10 to 15 minutes before I can see the story I want to watch.

Anytime someone alerts a character about a story on the news, the character always knows what channel the story is on.  The news comes on multiple channels at the same time where I live so I wonder how they always know which channel to watch.  A lot of times the news shows aren’t covering the same stories at the same time, but the characters always know which one to watch.

Cars
Characters on TV and in movies can always get in their cars and go.  They never have to wait for their cars to warm up before they get in them.

Characters’ cars only run out of gas whenever they are stranded in the middle of nowhere.  They don’t usually run out of gas unless they are too far away from a gas station.

Household
Characters’ apartments or houses are usually spotless unless the character is a slob or suffering from a break up.  They are rarely seen cleaning up their homes.

Game shows
This one happens mostly for TV shows.  The characters can always get on a game show.  It doesn’t matter where they live the game show always holds auditions in their town.  The character(s) can always get on the show.  What are the odds that they can get on a game show before all the other contestants?  I’ve seen this happen on classic shows such as Sanford And Son, 227, Golden Girls, as well as others.

Lottery/Jackpot Winnings
Characters can win the lottery so easily.  They also win big when they do win.  It’s never a low pot (a couple of dollars).  In Lottery Ticket, the lead character won the largest lottery in his town’s history.  Those of us who play the lottery know it’s not that easy to win a big pot.  In Whatever Happens In Vegas, the lead character was able to win a huge jackpot with just one quarter.  It could probably happen, but it’s not likely.

News reporters
News reporters or journalists mess up on TV and in movies.  There are times when people on the news mess up.  They will read the wrong lines or mess up a story all together.  Sometimes they forget that their microphones are still on and they say something on TV.  Some examples of this can be seen in Switching Channels, Front Page, Broadcast News, Married With Children, Boy Meets World, The Facts Of Life, Growing Pains, Murphy Brown, etc.  Newscasters rarely mess up like this in real life.

These are all the 11 things that only happen in movies and TV.  Have you noticed any of these things happening while you are watching a movie or TV?  What things have you noticed only happens in movies or TV?

  1. Good points. I’ve noticed that on TV, people with small children don’t have their house overrun with toys the way it happens in real life, only when it happens to be the point of the plot line.

I can’t say I had noticed but now that you brought it up, I do. Another thing I have noticed is that the driver of the car turns around to talk to the passengers.for minutes at a time. that wouldn’t happen here unless you wanted to be involved in a crash.

Good observations. The shower scenes are remarkably different from the real life.

These are very interesting observations. I can’t take a shower without using a sponge or washcloth either. If I don’t scrub my body, then I don’t feel clean. The only time that I use the soap on my skin is in the shower at the gym, but then I really shower at home. With regards to the phone scene, I’ve noticed this in soap operas. The car is funny. It’s true, they just turn on the ignition and drive away.

I do the ‘It’s me” depending on who I am calling. If it’s someone I know well, they know my voice. :)
