Say it isn’t so.

According to her producers, Oprah Winfrey will announce on show today (Friday, November 20, 2009) that she will end her illustrious television career. She will tell her audience that her last show will air on September, 21, 2011 after having been on the air at that time for about 27 years. It was probably the most successful daytime talk show ever.
Why make such an announcement now? I’ve been around broadcasting long enough to know that when a blockbuster announcement is made well in advance of an event it is done so to throw the spotlight on the principal–a publicity stunt, if you will. This type of information tends to draw temporary attention to the people involved. It is my judgment that we are hearing this due to falling TV ratings and sluggish readership of O Magazine following Mis Winfrey’s endorsement of Barack Obama for president.
Ladies, don’t start wringing your hands just yet. By the time 2011 rolls around we will all have forgotten today’s announcement that she will leave television. I suspect Oprah will have forgotten it, as well.
I expect you are right, Ken. It is probably just a publicity stunt.

Different stunts to increase tv ratings.
Great work…

I think she had her day. Time new blood to come on the scene.
Thanks Lee Ness
I used to watch Oprah, but stopped a few years ago.
It is all in the game…
It’s just a publicity stunt and nothing else
Guess I’ll just wait and see. If she does end this show, something else will pop up on her network, I’m sure.
Seems strange what people will do to keep themselves in the lime light!
Did you see my topless pics?
Tx for your professional opinion.
Everybody has their distinct signature and years of regular shows can sap creativity. It’s a good idea to take a break. There will be something new for sure, and that will be good for Oprah as well as for us.
TV people do everything they can just to increase their ratings….
If it is true, what will be her next important gig? Maybe, politics? I wonder what would happen if she would decide to run for president one day? Can you picture Oprah, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton running at the same time?
very good and informative,Thanks
No comment…
You know, I wondered why they made the announcement yesterday when it doesn’t take effect till next year. I’m sure you are right on the money Ken, Her ratings have gotten low this year.
I’ll believe it when I don’t see her anymore.
I hope it isn’t true
Life goes on…
maybe you’re right ken.
Excellent journalistic write Ken! I suspect she may just want out.She is need for no money as she is the richest woman in the world. It really is hard to say.
I’ve never watched her show enough to comment.
Everybody isn’t a fool, you have got it right.Big show offs.
Good to see you back my friend. I am glad that your walk in the wilderness (NO TRIOND for a while), did not last for too long. It is good to have you and your wonderful works back on board.
Nadine
So did she make the announcement? I didn’t hear anything about it so I guess you were right!
It really doesn’t matter to me,
I don’t have time for TV
and when I did
liked action and adventure
I’m really not interested in the latest
romp by the day’s court jester.
