10 Reasons Why Elmo’s World is Educational for Your Child

Is your child addicted to Elmo’s World? Are you worried that it may not be good for your child?

My daughter watches Elmo’s World too and here are 10 educational reasons why I simply don’t mind her watching it.

  1. Attractive Red Color

My daughter was first attracted to its distinctive red feature when she was just a few months old. These bright, contrast colors are also easier on babies’ eyes. When she could recognize Elmo at the departmental store, we bought her an Elmo stuffed toy. Sometimes, we play “Where’s Elmo?” and she could easily locate it with its characteristic red.

  2. Jovial Character

Elmo is a jovial character. You hear lots of giggles and chuckles from Elmo, making your child happy and cheery. Even when he made some mistakes, he’ll laugh it off. It tells children that it’s fine to make mistakes and they’ll probably learn to laugh at themselves. This helps to promote positive character development and confidence in children.

  3. Song and Dance

Music and movement help children develop their motor, auditory and musical skills. My daughter loves the Hokey Pokey song (Topic: Dancing) and the Bunny Hop dance (Topic: Exercise). She really enjoys hopping around together with the bunny rabbits in the song.

  4. Numbers

This is a segment whereby Elmo counts different objects. It encourages children to learn numbers. I did not realize my daughter was counting until one day I heard her say “ten”; she only pronounces the last numbers, by the way.

  5. Short Documentaries

My daughter loves the short documentaries, especially those that feature animals. Her VCD on Pets, Cats and Dogs is her favorite. For babies and toddlers with short attention span, these mini-documentaries are brilliant ways to introduce real-life stories told by kids for kids.

  6. Educational Topics

Topic-based Elmo’s World dwells on different topics such as Dancing, Books, Music, Food, Water and Exercise. These topics are appropriate for young children as they have been exposed to all these experiences on a daily basis.

  7. New Experiences

Besides day-to-day experiences, there may be some encounters that kids are not familiar with such as diving, surfing or sailing in a topic in Elmo’s World, Water. These different experiences will encourage kids to learn new things and be more adventurous.

  8. Relationship With Pets

Elmo and his pet goldfish, Dorothy has a close relationship. Elmo treats his pet and all other animals well. This cultivates a respect for all living things in young children.

  9. Depict Babies

Elmo’s World gave a chance for babies to be stars in the show. Elmo often asks babies how they dance or eat their food or swim in water. My daughter loves those segments because she could see kids her age doing various things; things she does as well.

  10. No Discrimination

Elmo’s World often showcases kids of different abilities as well as those with special abilities such as Down’s syndrome or physically handicapped kids. It also presents kids of different races. Young children will learn to accept everyone as equal and will not develop discrimination against a particular group of people who may look different from them.

So, don’t worry that your children are watching too much of Elmo’s World. There are great inspiring lessons to learn for the show. Go on, let them watch Elmo!
