A Brand New Cast for Baywatch

Baywatch was an extremely popular American television series which ran from 1989 to 1999, (then from 1999 – 2001 as Baywatch Hawaii). 

This incredible show was centered around the life and work of a group of lifeguards. The trademark opening shot was enticing slow motion shots of this team, running towards the beach.

Baywatch has a coveted place in the Guinness Book of World Records, as the all-time, most watched TV show in the world.  Over 1.1 billion viewers tucked into their favourite weekly show, to digest the half naked lifeguards patrolling the crowded beaches of Los Angeles.

David Hasselhoff played a large role in this hugely successful show, as he was not only one of the stars, but invested his own money in it, as well as being an executive producer.  Baywatch led to a spin-off, ‘Baywatch Nights’ and a reunion movie, ‘Baywatch; Hawaiian Wedding.’

Below are a few of the most popular and likeable characters who appeared in the series.  I’m aware that most of them have moved on to do various other things.  This makes it necessary to have a brand new cast for Baywatch, should the producers decide to revive this remarkable show.  Here are some useful suggestions.

David Hasselhoff- Mitch Buchannon

My choice - Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester in Supernatural). 

Jared is toned, tall and attractive.  In addition, his hair is fabulous, and his gaze – intense, some of the attributes which made David such a big star on this beach drama.  Definitely a good choice for a slow motion beach-run.

Michael Newman- Mike ‘Newmie’ Newman (a real life-guard)

My choice – John MaGinley (Dr Cox in Scrubs)

He may be older, but I think that with the toned body of a swimmer, and the experience of age on his side, he would make a fantastically dependable ‘Newmie.’

Pamela Anderson- C J Parker

My choice - Christina Applegate (Kelly Bundy in Married With Children)

I always admired Christina’s natural beauty in Married With Children.  Her character was a that of a simple blonde, yet I think that she demonstrated a fine talent in acting, even from a young age. Baywatch needs a blonde for its slow motion running scenes, and I think she is the one.

My choice – Linda Cardellini (Samantha Taggart on ER)

Linda would be the strong, ’sensible’ one, with the vunerable spirit that everyone loves. I think that a new Baywatch cast would be incomplete without her.

Alexandra Paul – Stephanie Holden

 

My choice – Roselyn Sanchez (Elena Delgado in Without A Trace)

The one with the nose for solving crimes and sensing when trouble is around.  A Baywatch cast needs such an individual because half-naked running scenes are not all that they’re about. A large part of what they do, focuses on keeping the beach and its surroundings safe.  Roselyn will be indispensible.

My choice - Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia Cortez in Lost)

Michelle would be a great addition to a new cast of Baywatch because she has the sort of electric attraction which most men find appealing.  Baywatch is the kind of show which seeks to entice both male and female viewers with a mixture of crime, drama and fantastic-looking people.  Michelle is one that would not, and should not be left out.

Granted, these are all my subjective suggestions. However, I’ve spent a lot of time matching, not only the actors/actresses themselves, but the characters I know they can convincingly play.  I think that with these new additions, a new series of Baywatch would be a superb hit, and may even out-perform its earlier successes.
