Amanda Burton Quits Waterloo Road

Actress leaves hit BBC1 Drama.

The new series of the hit BBC drama is due to air next Wednesday (4th May), but it has been revealed that Amanda Burton, who plays the lead role of Karen Fisher- the schools Head Teacher- has filmed her final scenes, despite only joining the series eighteen months ago.

According to her agent, Ms Burton has decided not to renew her contract, telling The Sun newspaper: “Amanda only agreed and was contracted to film one series of Waterloo Road that would transmit in two blocks.”

An insider allegedly told the newspaper: “Everyone hoped she would be in it for the long term, so there was a lot of surprise when we discovered she was only filming one series.”

Amanda Burton plays Karen Fisher in the drama series: Head Teacher of infamous comprehensive Waterloo Road- a school said to be keeping the local paper (Rochdale Observer) in print- and mother to Bex (played by Tina O’Brien), Jess (Linzey Cocker) and Harry (Ceallach Spellman).

Series 7 promises to be one of the best yet- as well as the longest yet, with 30 episodes in the pipeline, despite only ten being originally commissioned.

Waterloo Road starts on BBC1 at 7.30 pm
