The spunky girl with the raspy voice received harsh criticism from the judges that may send her packing.
Wednesday night’s “Top 4″ episode of “American Idol” kicked off with the plenty of inspiration. The remaining contestants were asked to choose a song which served as inpiration for them.
All four, in my opinion, had strong song choices. James started the night with one of the most popular bar/karyokee songs, “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. Complete with a Journey tee shirt and his rockin’ vocals, James really set the bar for the night.
Poor Haley.
Haley’s music choices are criticized by Randy and Jennifer on a regular basis, but I think she has a really solid and ecletic taste in music. Her inpiration was explained in the pre-song interview, and it made complete sense. “What About Us” was a really powerful song that didn’t quite make it on the charts, yet resonated with a certin core audience.
Her eyes welled with tears and her voice protested with frustration when Randy called her performance “screaming.” While I do think Haley was reaching for some sour notes, I think the judges really need to be fair. Scotty and Lauren followed Haley, and while I think they did a pretty good job, I also think they are boring. They both sing the same types of songs from week to week and I’m over the wholesome goody-two-shoes images. If I see one more plaid shirt on Scotty, I might hurl.
Clearly, I’m a Haley fan. I was also a Jacob and Thia fan, so I guess I’m a little bitter. I think James is fantastic, so if Haley goes tonight, that’s who gets my votes. Although based on the history of this show, I think we all know who is going to win (um, says the thousands of teens shouting for Scotty McHotty).
Still…you never know.
