Indian TV Channels and Promotion of Superstitions

Don’t distort the beautiful Vedic teachings, and the ancient wisdom. Your illogical and foolish interpretations have already done a lot of harm.

The channel boom has brought phenomenal changes in every society and India is also no exception. However, it is easily felt that most of the TV channels are only bothered about their earnings and their rising graphs.

I feel delighted to see that only national TV channels of Doordarshan have still maintained some sort of dignity and values.

The news channels like India TV, Star News, Zee News, News 24, and the other privately owned channels are only trying to follow the same track. All of them have one or two programmes about astrology, palmistry, and zodiac sign reading, fortune telling, etc. A so called ritually attired man appears on the screen and starts telling people on phone line what to do or what not to do on that particular day. Very ridiculously, an Acharya named Indu Prakash appears on India TV almost everyday and guides people on the trivial actions like sneezing, hiccups, and so on. He tells them which line to recite, or what to donate, or what action to perform if they sneeze while going out. It is really shocking that the Government authorities are sleeping and not taking the issues seriously.

It is not realized that how much harm this propagation of irrational beliefs can do to the already religiously burdened society. If a rationalist like Mr. Sanat or a qualified man of science is brought to the debate he is silenced by the group of invited people who cry in the name of Indian culture and ancient beliefs and religions.

Logically speaking, in fact, in the past decade the religious and superstitious beliefs have reached a new level with the help of these TV channels. The society was already strife torn and people who were illiterate were struggling to come up but now the hope is vain.

God bless Indian TV channels and their blind worshippers.

Don’t distort the beautiful Vedic teachings, and the ancient wisdom. Your illogical and foolish interpretations have already done a lot of harm. You have made the pious holy scripture-Gita, Ramayana, Purana- a commodity which you have been distorting at your will to befool the ignorant masses and to fill your pockets.
