It’s Corrupting Our Youth

Boohbah is an evil show.

Recently, my friend told me about a child’s show, “Boohbah”, that she believed was inappropriate for little kids. A few years ago, I noticed it was causing some controversy across the country; many adults wanted it taken off the air. I had never seen the show before, so I decided to turn it on and see what it was all about. Thinking it couldn’t be worse than the “Teletubbies” I sat down and watched it. Previously, I believed the “Teletubbies” was the worst kids show ever made.

“Boohbah” began with a bunch of children laughing and a rainbow flying through the sky. Wondering what was going to happen next, I sat waiting. All of a sudden, two kids came on the screen jumping up and down and repeating what sounded like “bee-bah.” The rainbow flew down a huge tunnel with spinning colors, bubbles, and more laughter. The continuous spinning was making me get a headache and I imagined what kind of impact that would have on young children. There were colors everywhere, making it extremely eye-catching.  The rainbow spilt into five separate colors which were Boohbahs; they looked like Hersey kisses with arms and legs. Then, they danced across the screen while children said their names in the background. Their names were baby sounds like, Jumbah, Zing Zingbah, and Jingbah.  Every time the Boohbahs got up from sitting, they made a farting noise, which is inappropriate for children. These creatures didn’t talk; all they did was dance. On occasion, one of them would get up close to the screen and do this staring thing, which was kind of creepy.

After the dancing had ended, two children walked over with a present and placed it on a rainbow circle. Out of it came cardboard people named Mr. Man, Ms. Lady, Brother, Sister, and Little Dog. Then, the Boohbahs went back to their strange dancing/ exercising.  During the show, another present was brought out, which contained bananas. All of a sudden, Brother and Sister ended up in a forest and were taking bananas from a pile. A balance magically appeared and they evened out the bananas between the two of them and ate them.

They did more various dances and exercises. After five more minutes the show cut to a rainbow circle; different kids kept going in the circle and doing different exercises, starting out slow, then getting faster. This went on for a while until the Boohbahs come back on and flew up into the air, landing in their beds, which are pods. More spinning takes place and the show ends with the kids from the beginning saying bee-bah again and the rainbow flying away.

I looked on the internet to see what others thought about this cartoon; on various websites there were messages from parents complaining about the show. Watching this show made me realize it has no educational value; parents should want their children watching shows that teach them important things. I realize that little children like shows with lots of colors, but this show is over the top with all the spinning and flashing colors; it’s able to make you dizzy and cause a headache. Moreover, parents want their children to learn proper English and watching Boohbah isn’t going to help with that; they do not speak. And the creatures should make a more appropriate sound when they get up, because the one they currently have is not right. I believe this show needs to be changed or taken off the air.

  1. Hi Kyra, how are you?
I agree with you; the lack of educational value some of these shows get away with is stupifying. I don’t see the point in some of them, other than to take up space on the airwaves. In fact, it looks like a lot of these shows are not meant for children at all, but for adults. It makes me shake my head, sometimes.

I don’t understand why more people aren’t disturbed by what I can only call the “un-circumcised” appearance of the Boobahs heads. This takes creepy to a whole new level for me.
