Info on seven solid and exciting shows (5 detective and two spy series): House, Alias, Castle, NCIS Los Angeles, My Own Worst Enemy, The Forgotten and The Mentalist.
How do you like mystery? Crime? Drama? Thrillers? Secret Agents? Detectives? If you like smart characters that follow clues, pay attention to detail and solve cases or if you simply like to play spy, go under cover and enjoy shows with multi-tasking, multi-tasking operatives, I have the shows for you.
Alias (2001-2005)

This is as good and complicated as any spy show gets. You may remember Jennifer Garner from a lot of romantic comedy/drama movies (Valentine’s Day, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Invention of Lying, 13 going on 30, Catch and Release) or her role as the comic book character Elektra in both Daredevil and Elektra movies. However Jennifer made it big in Hollywood and proved she had enough chops to pull off drama, kick-ass action, subtle but effective humor all at once through her leading role as Agent Sydney Bristow in the series Alias, created by none other than the creator of Lost, J.J.Abrams. She is both the toughest and the most vulnerable secret agent ever portrayed, therefore the most humane. Not the mentione one of the hottest. Could I intrigue you a little bit? If yes, I wrote two posts on the plot of Alias, my favorite television show ever and you can check them out:
ALIAS: Story of Sydney and Vaughn
House (2004-present)

Who said you can’t play detective in a hospital? Do not dismiss this show just because the only hospital shows ever made were soap operas, with the exception of the crazy comedy Scrubs. And while Scrubs can appeal to your sense of humor, it won’t thrill you.
House follows the adventures of the maverick Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie)- who is one of the most arrogant, the bluntest, smartest character you ever saw. He is not nice and proud of it. He doesn’t play nice or give a damn about what you think. He still makes you laugh with his witty lines and incredible comebacks. He fascinates you with his unique character and skills and quirky sources of inspiration. It has analysis, problem-solving, brainstorming, original characters and interesting cases. If you are looking for more reasons on why you should see the show or if you are a fan and want a nice trivia, here’s the place to go:
House: Better than Sherlock Holmes and CSI combined
The Mentalist (2008-present)

In House, we have an extraordinary doctor. In The Mentalist, we have a “mentalist” whose mind works in incredible and psychic ways. This guy, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) is a former “psychic” and current consultant for CBI, California Bureau of Investigation. He assists detectives with his attention to detail, ability to solve puzzles and his ability to affect and read human behavior. He can figure out who you are in 5 minutes looking at your belongings and/or attitude than you can throughout your life. Patrick Jane has a troubled past, a deadly mission and a great sense of humor. He cares more about entertaining himself than getting along with suspects and witnesses. If you are looking for more info on the character, his teammates and the plot: The Mentalist.
Castle (2009 present)

A fun-loving crime/mystery/thriller writer Castle (Nathan Fillion) has many roles: Best-selling author. Singe father. Son of a vivacious actress Martha. A single man on the market. His most recent however was one he didn’t see coming: A consultant for an NYPD murder department, working with a smart, beautiful and tough Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). House provides great one-liners and The Mentalist generates a lot of laughs. But Castle can make you laugh too, without taking away from the mystery, action and drama. The rest of the characters are just as interesting as our cute, funny, fun-loving, intelligent and talented author. For more Castle:

The Forgotten (2009)

This is probably the most humane of all the shows, since it is about a group of volunteers who cooperate with the Chicago police to first find the identity of murder victims and then help catch the killers. The volunteers are led by ex-cop Alex Donovan (Christian Slater).
My Own Worst Enemy (2008)

This is another short-lived series, also starring Christian Slater. This time however Christian plays secret agent. This show has all the complications of a double identity with a great twist disguised as split personality. It only has 9 episodes but it is worth the watch for the lovers of the thriller genre:
NCIS Los Angeles (2009-present)
This is the Los Angeles branch of the ongoing series NCIS starring Mark Harmon. In the L.A. version we get Chris O’Donnell and L.L. Cool J.
For the plot and characters: NCIS Los Angeles
A very good compilation.
