Sponge Bob – Too Many Sexual Innuendos?

Sponge Bob Square Pants, the popular cartoon show on Cartoon Network has many sexual innuendos that corrupt children.

Sponge Bob , the innocent guy under the sea , isn’t really as innocent as he seems! One afternoon , after a long day of work , I decided to turn on the telivision . I came across a sponge- like creature talking to his other under-the-sea friends.  Instantly , I was fascinated by this cartoon show . It had me laughing , I was enjoying the show .  I was going to tell everyone that knows me to watch this what , at the time , I considered to be a real “jackpot” of a cartoon telivision show . While at work the following day , I mentioned the great discovery. I was shocked at the reaction from my fellow collegues . They began attacking me telling me that Sponge Bob was full of sexual innuendos and it has negative effects on people and for that matter on society .

At first , I became a defensive player . I told them that they must have this show mixed up with another  , because the show that I became quickly fascinated with was just a playful little sponge who had his few friends. They told me to go home and google , ” sponge-bob innuendos” . and I was shocked .  What I found to be a great show was ,in fact, streaming sexual topics into the homes of children and corrupting them  . Many examples of these sexual innuendos can be found in nearly ALL sponge bob episodes . There are a few episodes that are clearly based on porn-like references – one of these includes the one where Patrick , the orange-tan colored character , also sponge-bob’s best friend , builds a mound of sand that is shaped nearly identical to a penis . After Patrick built the mound of penis , he began licking on it . Another episode , Sponge Bob is sitting watching telivision , when Patrick walks into the room to find his best friend sitting watching a television – during this scene , Sponge Bob begins nearly panicking to change the channel and make a reference that , in so many words , says “Oh No , Patrick get out im watching Porn ” . Obviously , on a children’s network channel , he doesn’t out-right say that , but for many viewers that is the gist of the scene.

Lastly , I want to challenge parents especially to monitor what is being thrown into your kid’s head daily . Each time they see something on television , they are taking in knowledge of what they may see as life as it is excepted by today’s standards.  The sexual orientations of these shows have negative effects on the lives of young viewers .Take into the account , it’s better safe than sorry . If you as a parent are unsure of a show or think for a second that it may harm a child , remove it from your home . In a perfect world , all parents should monitor the content thier youngsters are gaining access to .

First can this show corrupt the children when they don’t even know what those innuendos mean. And they’re practically unnoticeable for children. I’m fifteen and I only learned about them now as I researched them. When I found a list of innuendos, I didn’t even get some of them until I researched for the meaning. You’re an idiot and that’s all.

I agree with the above. you must realize, kids are innocent and pure and do not think as dirtily/do not know about sexual things as teenagers and adults do. which means in turn, they wont understand any of the innuendos.

I watch Spongebob all the time and have noticed a few a few dirty jokes on there myself (I’m 15). However, because its SPONGEBOB and its a kid based show, I *immediately* dismiss the joke, not thinking much of it. How can you expect kids to be “corrupted” by it when older people (who know about sexual content) hardly notices it themselves?

As jack said, I’ve (recently) looked for a list of Spongebob innuendos and seeing them actually pointed out is the first time that they’ve actually registered as sexual to me. As I said before, when I saw the innuendo, although I laughed at first, I thought absolutely nothing of it and haven’t thought anything of it until now seeing people mention it.

Your opinion is so invalid it’s ridiculous.

This is a bunch of BS. Yeah Spongebob has some sexual innuendoes but kids don’t understand them. When I watch Spongebob I don’t even catch most of them and I’m 15! Spongebob will not corrupt kids or homes. I’m surprised about how your coworkers reacted, I mean, they are adults. Parents and adults overreact about things like this.

how coome everyone commenting is 15 yo?

    spongebob kicks ass !! lol

    btw im 15 lmao

  5. Kay says:

Yeah, I agree with everyone else, and the way you wrote this makes you seem like a tool. Also it on Nick not cartoon network. If you want to gripe about sexual references in cartoons Cartoon Network is by far worse. Corrupted by spongebob? You’re sad.

  6. Anna says:

Um, it was Gary that caught spongebob watching “porn”. Just saying.
Also, spongebob is the funniest kid’s show on television. I’m 18 and I still feel that way.

  7. An honest to goodness mom says:

Ok, kids…. and I sure hope all these comments are from kids since any responsible adult should know better – here’s a news flash for you. Just because small children “don’t understand” sexual innuendo doesn’t mean it’s ok to expose them to it. Garbage in/garbage out, as the old saying goes. Why put crap like that in a CHILDREN’S show? And why is it ok as long as the child doesn’t “get it?” So if I give you a plate of brownies laced with dog crap, that’s ok with you… as long as you can’t taste it?? Yeah. That’s what I thought.

I’m seventeen and I agree with the above. I liked SBSP when I was younger b/c the episodes were better and funnier but now it’s just a bunch of stupid crap. I guess the reason for adult content on kid’s shows is to keep parents amused/attract older viewers. -_-

What?! Spongebob can be full of as many innuendos as you cracks think he is, in the end, the kids are going to be ruined by the kind of crap they see and hear in the homes. When the rest of the kinds in class talk about how much tit lady gaga showed or how much they want to kill Selena Gomez for dating Justin bieber, the last thing that will “poison their minds” is a fucking sponge working as a fry cook. When you were little, how many songs did you know that talked about sex or drugs and only realized it when you were in your 30s? If that’s what didn’t ruin you then I’m sure it was the birds and the bees that did it right? If you keep expecting kids to live in a bubble, that’s great, but actually follow through it. Hide all of your alcohol. Any pills you take make sure you don’t take them in front of your children god forbid they know you need a pill to be happy after you had them. And make sure you keep them in sunglasses everywhere you go because if they see a girl with her tits hanging out or a gay couple walking by they might actually understand the world instead of fearing it. Oh, and no sex! Sleep in separate rooms and remember to tell me on a daily basis that a stork in a hat dropped the off I front of your house.

I used to watch spongebob all the time; and I just now re watched these episodes after all this talk about innuendos started. I’m 15; and I remmber watching these episodes when I was much younger. They didn’t seem out of place in any way. Now I get the little messeges stuck inside the conversations; but I never even considered them back then. So what I’m trying to say is; if a kid doesn’t have any recognition of the actions; they won’t understand them. A kid can interperate Patrick licking a mound of sand that looks like “something” as his licking icecream or something. Or when spongebob gives gary the soap bard and says “dont lose them”; a kid might just think he wants gary to be responsible. So in short, these little innuendos wont have any harm on a kid, since he/she wont understand it.

Well yeah, maybe when this kids grows up and realizes these little quirks he/she might thing “Wtf did I watch all my childhood?!” – but that’s another story :D

  12. Lauren says:

You have got to realize that even though Spongebob may have a lot of sexual innuendos, NO kid that watches it will understand it. I’m 18, and I just now started to realize/understand all of them. If you’re going to say you need to “censor” what your kids watch, you may need to realize that there are tons of innuendos in kids films/movies. The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Shrek, Adventure Time, the Powerpuff Girls, even Happy Feet have some “adult-type” humor in them, and you have to realize, it is for the ADULTS. What adult wants to sit and purely watch a children’s show? They have to make it somewhat entertaining for the adults to watch it with their kids.

  13. Jugie says:

Ok omg if you would stop being negative when you watch it you won’t find any innuendos only reason why I notice is because I’m at a older age now but you have to realize the ones who are over reacting need to calm down and need to stop having dirty minds your child will find out about way more sexual and dirty things in life for ex: school trust me I learned everything sexual thing from kids at school your child will be leanring these sexual things and u won’t even no so grow and stop having a dirty negative mind when your watching spongebob have a laugh gosh

  14. sensible&practical says:

You’re and idiot if you actually like spongebob. Studies have proven that the show ruins childrens’ attention spans in the first place, and yet you still want to expose them to that filthy crap? Think about it. They’re all in [a] bikini bottom. Mr. Krabs — crabs, Spongebob– an absorbant thing–,

Think about it. They’re all in [a] bikini bottom. Mr. Krabs — crabs–, Spongebob– an absorbant thing–, Patrick– a PINK STARFISH for Christs sake–, and Sandy– a squirrel that always seems to have nuts–. Think back to that episode where Spongebob and Patrick are hesitant to ride the exhilerating Fiery Fist of Pain. Do you honestly think its okay to expose kids to that kind of blatant subject matter? So what you’re old and still think the show rocks. Did you ever notice that children make a habit of repeating what they hear? Yeah well 1. that can get them as well as you into trouble, 2. Eventually they think it is acceptable to repeat it, whether or not they understand it, and 3. It corrupts their minds from a young age. Just because the supervisor doesn’t understand the innuendo doesn’t make it okay for kids. Did you know the show as originally intended to be a grown gay men’s cartoon instead of children’s entertanment? Its fine to look at the show in a negative light because those who do are only looking out for the next generation- overexposure to this crap lends a helping hand to kids growing up to be sluts, whores, douchebags, and players. I’m not saying bad cartoons cause it, but they certainly do not teach kids that that is wrong. Some shows and movies are more discrete about how they display their innuendos than others which is why they can usually get away with it. Who would truly notice that the priest gets and errection at the altar in the Little Mermaid, but it is unacceptable that a pink starfish (meaning a clean anus ready for anal sex) is one of the main characters of a popular show. You should really grow up because there is absolutely no reason to defend this something that is contributing to the downfall of our morals. So what you’re older and now you understand that its a “little perverted”. Open your eyes and see that it is a terrible influence of children. I’m not anything like a bible-thumper devout christian or a fundamentalist muslim or any other reserved idealist, yet no way in hell would I let ayone I really cared about watch Spongebob Squarepants. And I’m 18 too. Get with the program and tune out of this one.

  16. Alicia M E says:

This program features things that many people would consider as innuendos, but they’re probably mainly accidental. I say mainly as I wouldn’t know whether they’re all accidental or not. To notice the ‘bad stuff’ you’d have to already know a bit about it (e.g. Mr Krabs representing the disease crabs living in [the] bikini bottom. You wouldn’t know about the condition unless another person told you about it). I’m not going to be all judgemental claiming that it’s the parents fault, but it has to be said by someone the child knows and/or another type of program. Children wouldn’t notice it nor will they pick it up if they were completely innocent. If they don’t understand it or didn’t know it was supposedly meant to be funny, then they won’t repeat it. Simple as that. I’m also 15 years old and I literally had no idea that it had the slightest innuendo and at my age, I’m expected to be at the time where I will see everything as an innuendo. What you believe you see it projected from your memories – if you’ve heard sexual phrases, then you will start to look out for them subconsciously.
