The Big Bang Theory is a sitcom produced and directed by Chuck Lorre of Two and a Half Men and Bill Prady studies Gilmore Girls by Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros.
The series begins with the arrival of the beautiful Penny, the apartment shared neighbor Leonard and Sheldon, two physicists, experimental and theoretical, respectively, working at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Leonard falls in love from the first moment of Penny.
Both are brilliant in their work, but they and their friends Howard and Raj are represented as a complete geeks, far removed from the concerns and problems of ordinary people. Howard Wolowitz, an engineer pseudo-Jewish lover, a movie paradigm psychedelic sixties and Rajesh Koothrappali, astrophysicist of Indian nationality.
During the series shows the difficulty of the male protagonists to interact with people outside their primarily female, resulting in comical situations.
The series contains a lot of gags and references to real physical principles and theories, but are simplified to the maximum to be quickly understood by the audience that has no studies in physics, mathematics or engineering. Also there are references to series of cult comedy (Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Men or Battlestar Galactica), video games (Halo, Guitar Hero, World of Warcraft and Super Mario 64), DC Comics (Batman, Superman, Flash or Green Lantern) and even Marvel Comics (Hulk and Wolverine). It also refers to social networks like Facebook, MySpace or Twitter.
