Michael Brea, a bit-part actor in the hit TV series “Ugly Betty” had been charged with the murder of his mother.
MICHAEL Brea, the Ugly Betty actor charged with fatally stabbing his mother with a sword, said he did not kill his mother but admitted to killing “the demon inside her”.
Brea, 31, killed his mother Yannick Brea, 55, with a sword after an argument in the early hours of Tuesday in their Brooklyn apartment, police allege, the New York Daily News reports.
In an interview with the Daily News from the prison ward of New York’s Bellevue Hospital, Brea said his mother’s death was “the work of God.”
Brea said that on the day of the murder, his mother asked him to go to the kitchen to pour out water from a pot in which she was cooking chickens.
“I looked at these chickens lying dead in the pot and a voice told me it was a sacrifice. It was black magic,” he said.
He reported that after not completing the task, his mother spoke to him with “the voice of the demon”.
Brea claimed that he asked his mother if she believed in God and she said no. At that point, he said, “I began slashing her.”
Brea’s downstairs neighbour corroborated his account of events.
“He kept chanting, ‘Repent’ said neighbour Greg Clare, according to the New York Post.
“He kept asking her if she believed in Jesus Christ, if she believed in God.” Clare stated.
